But nowadays copper and silver are also applied in their creation. Centuries ago people made the same musical instruments applying basically timber because a lot of people weren't able to make it of metal. Brass instruments include contemporary French horn, tuba, cornet, trombone, trumpet and flugelhorn.
An art of blowing a horn or a shell was invented in the ancient times. Later instruments that were similar to horns were produced when people started the production of instruments of metal. Those instruments were intended for military, hunting and religious purposes.
Nowadays' brass instruments came from hunting bugles, martial bugles and postal pipes. Such musical instruments could only play natural scale sounds because at those times there weren't valve gear in them. Various timbres of sounds were played only with the assiatence of lips of a player. All military and hunting fanfares and signals appeared at those times. People began to use these sounds in orchestral music because of their natural scale.
With the increasing of metal working process and the producing instruments of brass it became possible to create tubes of different dimensions and finishing. During the developing of brass instruments and the improvement of diverse natural scale sound producing the term of natural instruments appeared. Natural scale was the foundation scale of those instruments because at those centuries people didn't invent valve mechanism yet. It was the age when brotherhoods of trumpeters began to appear. At that age two brotherhoods of trumpeters dwelled: martial trumpeters who sounded martial songs and chambers trumpeters that played in courts.
People created valve gear only at the beginning of the nineteenth century. It strictly transformed the technique of performance and heightened the possibility of brass instruments. The point of that gear was in adding the crown in the basic pipe. It transformed the form of instruments and the pitch was lowered.
